Airline Job News June issue, page 2
Airline Jobs up 150%, continued...
In 2006, we have seen a significant increase in openings for entry level jobs, from flight attendants to, customer service agents, gate agents to ramp and cargo positions. In addition, there has been an dramatic increase in aircraft maintenance and engineering positions, as well as management, IT and professional positions.
As indicated in the recent US Bureau of Transporation Statistics report, we have seen the greatest rise in regional airline jobs – these are the low cost/low fair airlines that are profitable and growing rapidly. These airlines offer a safer bet for long-term employment. However, even the large national and international carriers are hiring in significant numbers, compared to just one year ago.
Answers to reader questions
I am 19 and trying to plan out my career. Can you explain the main benefits of working for an airline, and why I would use your service? Kirstin, Chicago IL.
Hi Kirstin. Thank you for your question - it's great that you are investigating your career options, and planning ahead. As you might expect, probably the best perk of working for an airline is that airline jobs continue to offer free travel benefits for employees – a benefit not offered by any other industry.
Even entry level employees, like crew schedulers, receptionists, reservation agents, station agents or ramp agents can get fantastic airline travel benefits. As Continental airlines says "Some jobs give you free coffee – airline jobs give you free travel". |
|
Of course, the travel benefits vary by airline. However each airline offers some type of regional, national or international travel discount because of interline agreements between the airlines. So, these are great jobs for people with family living in distant cities, or for people who just love to travel.
