Have an airline job question? Ask Linda:

Does it look better if I travel at my own expense to another state for an "Open Session Interview", rather than wait until one comes near my home? Josh, Santa Barbara, CA

Hi Josh,

Great Question! Open session interviews are held for flight attendant positions and passenger services positions (like ramp, cargo and gate & reservations agents) and occassionally pilots or cadet training (not first officers). It's not really a matter of looking better by getting there at your own expense if the interview isn't in your home city. It's a matter of being there to get an interview sooner.

The more interviews you go to, the better chances you have of getting a position sooner. However, you may also need to be flexible about moving to a new location (not always the case, but sometimes). Also, the more open sessions you attend, the better you will get at answering questions at them.

Some of our members have been hired at their first open session. Here are a few tips for Open Session Interviews:
  • Dress professionally and conservatively, no matter what position you are applying for.
  • Smile and be positive
  • Remember when you are answering questions that airlines care about safety first, and then of course, customer service. Elaborate on your understanding and experience in both areas.
  • Bring a resume with a 10-year history of your work and education experience. This is a requirement for any airline position

At AirlineJOB.net we track and post all with 121 airlines. By becoming a member, you will always know where all Open Session Interviews are being held - and you'll have a greater chance of applying more often.

Best of luck in your airline job search!

Sincerely,

Linda Peterson
