Airline Industry Boom for Boieng & Airbus, continued...

Pictured Above - the Airbus 380 - the new double-decker aircrfaft that has helped Airbus take-off this year.

The Aircraft boom has been nothing if not impressive. "Many low-cost carriers and international airlines are profitable and are ordering new aircraft."

EADS added that, "In Europe the trend is good, and it is even better in the Asia-Pacific with its huge long-term traffic growth potential."

EADS raised its forecast for Airbus deliveries this year from the previous range of 350 to 360 to a record level of "more than 360". It delivered 320 aircraft in 2004 compared with Boeing's 285.

EADS said that gross aircraft orders won by Airbus in the first half of the year more than doubled from 104 to 276.

EADS said that it remained confident that its operating earnings would exceed €2.6bn ($3.1bn) this year, up from €2.4bn last year, and it raised its earnings-per-share forecast for this year from €1.36 per share to €1.50, compared with €1.27 in 2004.

Boeing, the Chicago-based aerospace giant posted a solid second-quarter profit report - and issued upward-earnings guidance for 2007.  The  Aircraft orders reported by Boeing surged to 200 in May and were a still-remarkable 162 planes in June. Boeing has conservatively boosted its forecast for aircraft assemblies in 2007 to 395 planes, from a 320 target for 2006.

"But we expect assemblies to reach at least 410 next year, paving the way for a 25% surge in shipments for this important industry in 2007 - one that likely will be nearly repeated in 2007".

All this is good news for airline industry employees. The collossal surge in aircraft orders has been paralleled at AirlineJOB.net with the dramatic increase in job postings that we have seen in the last 2 years.

In 2003, we consistantly had about 900 to 1,100 jobs in our database from 85 airlines. Today, we track and post jobs for 108 airlines and have consistantly had over 1,400 jobs in our database since May 2006.

Answers to reader questions

Hi Richard. Thank you for your questions - these are quite common questions from our website visitors, so I'm glad you asked them. Here are the answers:

This guide includes directions on how to apply to 72 airlines, as well as answers to 46 typical airline job interview questions, and tips on how to get your resume noticed by airline computer scanners.

If you are not 100% satisfied that our service provided you with tools to help you interview and apply more effectively for airline jobs, then, after 30 days of becoming a member, you can send us a written request explaining why you were not satisfied with the service, and we will refund 100% of your money.

Since we have been in operation, we have had less than 10 requests for refunds - or less than .01% of our customers have requested a refund. We really do aim to please our customers.

How long does it take to get a new airline job?

We conducted a survey of our members in November last year (2004) and found that most members got a new airline job within 3 months.

Do you need to take a course?

The answer to this depends on what type of airline job you are interested in. If you want to become a Passenger Services Agent (like a ticket agent or baggage handler or reservations agent or aircraft cleaner) or a Flight Attendant, or if you are seeking an administration position, like a crew scheduler, no course is required. Once you are hired, each airline provides training for each of these positions.

For entry level jobs, the basic requirement is a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and a positive attitude – not bad for a job that can have you flying from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale for $20.00!"

If you are seeking a position as a Pilot, aircraft mechanic or other professional position, you will typically need outside training from a professional, licensed training facility or school.

I hope I have answered your questions. Best of luck in your airline job search!

Sincerely, Linda Peterson

Maria - My life as a Flight Attendant, continued:

What is the job really like? "Sometimes there are passengers that are having bad days, but I have always looked at them as a challenge - I try to get a smile out of the grumpy ones, and it ends up making both of our days. I think its this attitude that has always made me successful in my job."

What do you like most about being a Flight Attendant? "I enjoy travelling and exploring new places a. My airline employee benefits have enabled our family to exotic locations including Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, and Spain - my father's home country. I really appreciate the fact that my children are getting to see their heritage as well as other cultures and countries.

What I like the most now that I have young children is the ability to work part-time. I have enough seniority to get hours that work for my husband and I, and when I do go to work, it almost feels like a vacation, as well as a chance to visit with my flight crew friends. I really can't imagine doing any other career. I encourage anyone reading this article to be persistant - if this is your dream, don't give up, keep applying!
